“Press Your Luck” is a mixed-media sculpture that centers on the idea of generational wealth, trauma, and traditions which all come with advantages and disadvantages. Kim’s great-grandmother sits at the center of the painting which  is covered by fake American money but real foreign money. In the way that the boxes and the dollhouse teeter over the delicate plates, expanding one’s family is fraught with trying to keep balance between old traditions and new ones. Many traditions are specifically handed down by women to other women (cooking, holiday planning, religion), and a refusal to participate would mean cultural erasure.
